MOCA explains social organizations’ GDP statistics

On July 30th, Caixin News reported that, according to Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Center for the Third Sector's report, the official GDP data of social organizations is far less than the actual data. An official from Ministry of Civil Affairs (MOCA) later did an interview with Caixin explaining the differences between the numbers, and also confirmed that there might be errors in the raw data that had been announced.

2014 human rights white paper released by State Council

On June 8, the Information Office of the State Council released a White Paper titled "Progress in China's Human Rights in 2014" (2014年中国人权事业的进展). This is the 12th White Paper on human rights released by the Chinese government since 1991. The White Paper covers a wide range of human rights developments in 2014 including the right to development, the right to a fair trial, personal rights, democratic rights, environmental rights, rights of women, children, the elderly, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities, and international cooperation and exchanges in human rights field.

Draft overseas NGO law released online for public consultation

The second draft of the law that will bring sweeping new regulations to cover the activities of foreign NGOs in China has been put on the NPC website for public consultation. The "People's Republic of China Foreign NGO Management Law (Draft Second Draft)", which emerged out of discussions at the 14th session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, is displayed on the website in full. Comments about the draft can be made via the NPC website or by posting to the address listed below. The deadline for comments is the 4th June.
