On January 4th, the Ministry of Civil Affairs held a ceremony to mark the issuing of a unified credit code (Unicode) for social organizations in China. Gu Zhaoxi, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and Shan Chengfu, the director of the Civil Administration Bureau, attended the ceremony and issued the certificates. From now on all social organizations will receive their unique 18 digit unicode, allowing them to have just one certificate.

The new system will simplify procedures for social organizations and further invigorate them. By strengthening the digital management of social organizations’ credit information, it can also help promote information sharing and exchange between social organizations. This reform can be seen as a vital step taken by the Ministry of Civil Affairs to streamline administration, optimize services, strengthen supervision and boost the construction of social organizations’ credit system. During the certificate issuing ceremony, the Wechat account for social organizations’ registration services also went online. It is expected to become an important service platform for upgrading social organizations’ certificates, and it will allow the provision of online services for social organizations to improve in the future.
