What is the direction of media’s public interest work?
媒体公益路在何方?

By Ai Yiqing (艾已晴), Philanthropy Times (公益时报), February 5, 2013

Philanthropy Times explores the nature of media’s public interest working, discussing public debate over whether the media’s focus should lie in carrying out the “frontline” work, or in “enlightening” the public by broadcasting and supervising the work of others– PT supports the latter, arguing that before jumping into the fray, media should consider the merit and sustainability of public interest projects. Director of the Global Times Foundation Wu Jie explains that when the Global Times first became involved in public interest work, they found that without the proper focus, and the proper qualifications, their projects were not able to continue, and thus the organization decided to establish a distinct foundation. Wu states that “coordinating charity and media dissemination and seeking a link between public service and social responsibility is the future director for media public interest work,” and suggests that media organizations build relationships with professional public interest organizations.
