Last year’s RMB 2 billion in welfare lottery funds to be used for public interest, with a focus on serving disadvantaged groups

The Ministry of Civil Affairs announced yesterday how it will spend the contents of the welfare lottery public interest fund, revealing a focus on the elderly, the disabled, and orphans. With authorization from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Civil Affairs will spend 5% of the welfare lottery’s funds, or RMB 2.01 billion, on social welfare and public interest projects. Approximately RMB 1.1 billion will be spent on elderly care, RMB 230 million on the disabled, RMB 475 million on orphans, and RMB 201 million on public welfare industry support and development.
