Rainbow SENSE
Although schooling is currently free in a lot of Nepal's rural areas, the other indirect expenses for things like books, bags, stationery, and uniforms can cost a considerable amount. The community schools only get enough funds to pay salaries and other school-related expenses. Apart from the costs, in places like Sindhupalchok and other rural areas, where daily life is dependent on daily wages, parents are reluctant to send their children to schools, as school takes up a lot of their time which could be used to earn a living. In many cases, they are not aware of the importance of going to school and the children's irregular attendance in school is no different from not attending at all. This demotivates both the students, who aren’t able to learn anything, and the parents who can’t see any difference in sending their children to school or not. This is where we thought that “Support & Encourage Nepalese Students’ for Education- SENSE” could help. This program was initiated with the main purpose to support and encourage students of the rural community schools of Sindhupalchok district to achieve formal schooling.

Low-Income Children’s Education
The environment inside the brick kiln is hard to imagine: dust, open and barren surroundings, no toilet facilities, no clean water, no proper playground, and no basic services. Kids mostly spend time playing in the muddy ground or helping their parents to carry bricks because they do not have other choices. Considering this situation, the Rainbow Volunteer Club came up with the project “Low-income Children's Education”, giving these children a choice and an opportunity to guide them towards a better life and future. The project aims not only to provide a new direction to the children but is also an opportunity for our young volunteers to be engaged in the real world with real problems, learn new things, and have a platform to utilize their knowledge, gain abilities to do something good for the society and enhance their own growth.

Rainbow Schoolmate
Rainbow-SCHOOLMATE has assisted more than 200 kindergarten kids of seven community schools in the Nepal-China border region. The region has been vulnerable after the earthquake of April-May 2015, and the floods and landslides of the monsoons have made it worse.
In the survey of schools of the Nepal-China border region conducted in December 2017, the data shows that the majority of schools have no access to any kind of supplies, nor do they have proper teaching resources and methods. So, our first priority is to work in this area and make sure that these ECD children have notebooks during school hours.

Low Carbon Cites & Renewable Energy in Developing Countries
First, GEI identified the potential for the development of renewable energy in Southeast Asian countries and the demand to achieve NDC in the respective countries. Based on the results, GEI proposed a ranking system and a method of data collection. Besides publishing a report on this topic, GEI also started a pilot project in Myanmar, improving their research capabilities on solar energy and biogas, as well as providing relevant development planning.

Community Development Program (Biogas) in Laos
A project aimed at developing programs promoting biogas technology in Ban Chim Village of Phounkhon County in Luang Prabang Province, which was affected by the construction of the NN5 Hydropower Station. By bringing expert Chinese biogas technology into Laos and making full use of livestock manure, GEI hoped to use this new and renewable clean energy technology for local farming, agriculture, and everyday use. Their aim was to meet Ban Chim Village’s everyday energy demands, improve local villagers’ standard of living, and, at the same time, significantly reduce the rate of deforestation to protect forest ecosystems.

IIED-led China-Africa Forest Governance Learning Project
The four-year project started in 2014 under a larger framework led by IIED, aiming to understand the problems and risks faced by Chinese investors in Africa and promote sustainable development that will benefit all the stakeholders through research and policy facilitation. During the project period, GEI successfully held annual learning platform events with IIED and African partners on forest governance, and supported five Chinese journalists to report on Chinese investment in Africa, resulting in published articles about challenges in Africa’s own timber legality and Chinese investment in timber and other related industries. GEI also published two reports on Africa’s timber governance, specifically focusing on export and import regulations in China and African project countries.

Demining Program in Cambodia
Cambodia is a country that has a major problem with landmines. Landmines remain uncleared in a large area of land in Cambodia, despite the demining program started in 1988. Currently there are only a few organizations, such as HALO Trust, that are working on demining in Cambodia. The participation of the Peaceland Foundation in Cambodia's demining program is considered a breakthrough of Chinese civil society.

Humanitarian Operation in helping Syrian Refugees
Five million Syrians have been displaced and have fled to other countries due to the Syrian Civil War that started in 2011. Accoring to the UNHCR, Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan are the three coutnries that have taken in most refugees from Syria. Syrians in Lebanon are mostly unemployed and living in poverty. To help improve their living conditions, the Peaceland Foundation initiated three programs in Lebanon targeting the education for child refugees (including Chinese and English language classes), women's economic empowerment and youth economic empowerment.

Anti-Poaching Operation in Zimbabwe
African elephants are on the path to extinction in the next 50 years due to illegal poaching for ivory. Following its economic rise, China has become the world's largest ivory market and this has negatively led the Chinese to be labeled as the culprits of illegal poaching internationally. To change this false impression, the Peaceland Foundation initiated the Anti-Poaching Voluntary Operation in Africa. This is not just a volunteering campaign, but also our contribution to Chinese diplomacy.

Clean Water Project in Nigerian Local Communities
Nigeria is the most densely populated country in Africa, with a population of more than 174 million people. Poverty has become widespread in Nigeria as the population has increased. Despite having sufficient surface water and underground water to meet demand, some areas especially in northern Nigeria face severe water shortages due to poor water resource allocation and drastically changing rainfall parterns. The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation started the Clean Water Project in Nigerian Local Communities to help local communities, including poor women and chilren, to obtain clean water, and therefore improve their quality of life and sanitation.

Protecting Pangolins with Nigeria
In response to the extinction of the pangolin, an initiative to protect pangolins will be launched in 2020. Animal conservationists and members of the media from South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria and China will be involved in this initiative. As part of the initiative, the China Biodiversity Conservation and the Green Development Foundation will be working with the Pangolin Conservation Working Group Nigeria (PCWGN). In order to cut down on the pangolin trade, the Procting Pangolins with Nigeria (PPN) is in progress to provide alternatives for Small and Medium-Sized enterprises, including the launch and support of a social enterpise network, the expansion of the pangolin protection partnership and a campaign in celebration of Word Pangolin Day.
