  • Ministry of Civil Affairs holds the tenth China Philanthropy Awards ceremony

The tenth China Philanthropy Awards ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing by the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MOCA) on the 13th of September, recognising distinguished individuals, companies and charitable projects that have made outstanding contributions to the development of philanthropy in China.

Following the Method for the China Philanthropy Award selection and commendation (《“中华慈善奖”评选表彰办法》), MOCA established a committee composed of relevant departments, deputies of the National People’s Congress, members of the CPPCC, charitable organizations, experts and scholars.

The selection was officially launched on September 1, 2017 and lasted one year. After a process including recommendations, materials reviews, committee reviews, online voting, consultation of relevant departments, social publicity and so on, MOCA awarded 28 individuals, 37 companies, and 47 charitable projects for their leading role in inheriting the traditional virtues of charity and good deeds, and carrying forward a charitable culture of mutual aid.

The selection for this year is based on the newly revised method. The rules are supposed to be more scientific and rigorous, and the process is more standardized and transparent. Furthermore, there are other characteristics worth being highlighted: only the recommendations from the provincial civil affairs departments and relevant ministerial units are accepted; the award specifically emphasizes commending distinguished companies and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to poverty alleviation; it echoes the themes of the China Philanthropy Day and utilizes multiple channels to publicize the award winners and their philanthropic stories.
