China’s State Council recently approved the “Announcement on the List of National Professional Qualifications”, published by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; a total of 140 professions are included in the list, and for the first time social work is one of them.

In response to this piece of news, a teacher from Sichuan International Studies University named Xiaoyan has drawn a series of comics explaining what “social work” is, what it does, what methods are used to carry it out and the reasons why people choose to get involved in it. Below are the comics themselves, with our rough translations beneath them.
