  • Alipay issues first-ever electronic invoice for an individual donation

On April 11, a woman in Beijing received the first electronic invoice for an individual donation issued by an Internet donation platform in China.

The invoice was issued for a donation to the “Send a Blind Child a Book” (我送盲童一本书) program, by the China Foundation for Disabled Persons (CFDP), which has teamed up with Alipay to create a new system for issuing invoices. There are also several other charitable programs by the CFDP open on Alipay now, including programs to help disabled children and children with cerebral palsy, and to provide artificial limbs and orthopedic surgeries to those in need.

Secretary General of the CFDP Zhang Yanhua commented that making donation invoices available to individuals electronically is very much in line with general informatization trends. The number of small-sized donations on public and internet donation platforms has been continually increasing. Electronic invoices also give charity organizations more legitimacy and help to mobilize the public by encouraging more participation. Being able to issue electronic invoices also helps to professionalize and internationalize charity organizations.

Currently Alipay offers electronic invoices only for donations to CFDP programs.
