Vision

“A world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignities.”Founded in 1937 by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and refugee social worker Eric Muggeridge, With a long-standing reputation of being a highly ethical, effective and committed development agency, Plan started its operation in China in May 1995. Our first projects began in Yanqing County in Beijing. In Yanqing we gained experience in improving agriculture, health, school buildings and infrastructure, sanitation and environmental protection.

In 1999, Plan China established a new strategic partnership with the Shaanxi Women's Federation, a branch of the All China Women’s Federation. Since then, based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), through the Child-Centred Community Development (CCCD) approach, our programmes have expanded to improve the lives of children and their communities throughout China. Currently, we work with children and communities in six programme areas which are Pucheng County, Chunhua County, Jia County, Yulin County and Xixiang County in Shaanxi Province, Longde County in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and in Jinping County and Luchun County in Yunnan Province, through a variety of development programmes in health, education, water and environmental sanitation, livelihood, child protection, child rights and disaster relief and rehabilitation. We also pilot projects and support children in 17 provinces, cities and municipalities.

In future, Plan China will focus more on the child health, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), child protection, child participation and child-centred disaster risk reduction to improve the lives of deprived and marginalized children, in proactive cooperation with governments at all levels, corporate partners, institutions and communities through CCCD approach.

In Shaanxi: Community Child Centre Project, Shaanxi Child Protection System Project, Children Reading Club Pilot Project, Occupational and Life Skills Training for Older Girls Project, Sustainable Microfinance Project and Child-Centred Disaster Relief and Recovery (also elsewhere).

In Shaanxi and Ningxia: Comprehensive Student Nutrition Improvement Project, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Project, School Linking Project, Rural School Environment Improvement and School Development Plan, Community-Driven Water and Environmental Sanitation Project, Capacity Building for Community-Based Organizations and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) (also in Yunnan).

In Sichuan: Migrant Women Entrepreneurship Project, New Citizens Social Inclusion Project.

More than 64% of Plan’s income comes from child sponsorship. This is a stable source of income allowing for long-term development projects. Plan also receives funds from other sources (including grants) which make up an increasing proportion of our income.
