The association NIMA social projects in Tibet, with domicile in Zurich, was founded on January 11th, 2000. The association's target is to assist old and sick Tibetans.
On June 25th, 2009 the general assembly of the association NIMA social projects in Tibet decided, together with Lobsang Nima Soghatsang, to transform the association into a foundation.
The Foundation NIMA social projects in Tibet wants to give light and warmth to people who are living in cold and lonely conditions. We support Tibetans who are old and sick, as well as children who need help. In Tibetan the word ‘NIMA' means ‘SUN'.
One of the main objectives of the NIMA foundation is the setting up of the home for old Tibetans living around the city of Ganzi.
A great number of them are not only old, but sick and lonely. These Tibetans live in very poor conditions, having no relatives to care for them they are often left without funds or assistance. There is no provision for old age in Ganzi therefore old people’s homes do not exist; leaving many pensioners reduced to begging in the city streets for survival.
Since 2001, the NIMA social projects have organised sponsorships for deprived children and their families in Ganzi and the surrounding villages. Orphans, one-parent families, abandoned and jobless mothers and the children of parents suffering from such diseases as tuberculosis, have benefited from these sponsorships. The family support we are able to provide enables the children to learn the basics of hygiene, health and nutrition as well as receiving elementary education which is our objective.
