To limit the spread of HIV infection and provide support for those affected by HIV/AIDS. We aim to: enhance public awareness of the AIDS epidemic; educate the public about HIV/AIDS; provide a range of services needed by people infected with HIV or otherwise affected by HIV/AIDS.
Hong Kong AIDS Foundation (HKAF) was established in 1991 and its mission is to curb the spread of HIV infection. Throughout the years, we have been actively engaged in the implementation of AIDS education, the provision of services for the affected, and the nurturing of a caring and supportive environment for people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Since 1996, HKAF has been providing capacity building and technical support for mainland colleagues and organisations covering areas such as planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes on HIV prevention, skills related to voluntary counselling and HIV testing, care and support for PLHIV and management of AIDS service organisations. For details, please visit www.hkafcn.hk.
In 2007, HKAF set up a collaboration centre in Beijing with the Chinese Association of STD/AIDS Prevention and Control so as to do more to help the mainland accelerate its response to HIV/AIDS.
Apart from the support given by the AIDS Trust Fund in Hong Kong and other funding sources, HKAF has to rely on fundraising activities to finance its work.
