The Mérieux Foundation is an independent family foundation that aims to fight infections diseases in developing countries, especially by founding clinical laboratories.
In Beijing the Mérieux Foundation runs the Christophe Mérieux Laboratory at the Institute of Pathogen Biology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing, which is a member of the GABRIEL network. The focus of this laboratory is pneumonia and tuberculosis. As a member of the GABRIEL network, the laboratory has access to training provided Emerging Pathogens Laboratory in Lyon and takes part in the China Against Drug Resistance Program (CARE).
In 2015 the Mérieux Foundation signed a a research cooperation agreement between the Charles Mérieux Center for Infectious Disease in Mali and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
Since 2008 the Mérieux Foundation has carried out a program to decentralize the diagnosis of tuberculosis and its resistance to treatment, in cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Health.
