Didi Chuxing and the One Foundation have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to undertake the “daring to help” (敢扶) special charity project.
Based in Beijing, Didi Chuxing is a transportation network company which provides vehicles and taxis for hire all over China via extremely popular smartphone applications. The planned charity project is centered around the company’s vast number of drivers. Special charity support groups will be set up for Didi drivers to encourage them to return lost money, help young and disabled passengers, and be courageous about helping others. The project is seen as a response to the unwillingness to help strangers in need which is perceived to be widespread in Chinese society. This is partly connected to a string of notorious cases which have taken place in recent years, in which people have tried to help injured strangers on the street only to be accused of causing the incident themselves and sued.
Over the next three years, Didi Chuxing will donate 5 million yuan to the “daring to help” project annually and over 15 million in total. Didi and the One Foundation have committed to fully integrate their respective strengths and resources and will further develop their cooperation and exploration in the field of public welfare and corporate social responsibility. As a young company, Didi also plans to undertake more social responsibility projects in the areas of charity and social innovation. Currently, it plans to establish an independent corporate charity foundation which can integrate its multiple resources from the product, the user and the drivers.
