Foxconn union election described as revamp

Foxconn Technology Group, which has factories in Chengdu, Zhengzhou, and Shenzhen, has reformed its unions in response to critiques of labor conditions in its factories. Foxconn has established detailed regulations concerning elections, with the intention of including a greater number of “junior” employees, after a third-party investigation by the Fair Labor Association revealed little worker participation in union actions. Foxconn sought to downplay that latest revisions to union regulations, stating that representative elections have been required of the unions since 2008.
