Shi Quanhua, public engagement director of WWF China, has given a press conference in Beijing in which he has announced his organization’s plans for the annual global event known as the Earth Hour, which will take place on the 19th of March this year, from 20:30 to 21:30 local time. The theme for 2016 will be “for a blue life”, symbolizing the appeal of a sustainable way of life which can help better preserve our beautiful blue planet and its blue sky.
The event will include some new features this year, according to Shi. In order to celebrate the 35th anniversary of it’s arrival in China, WWF will partner with the “Heart Panda” project to launch an exhibition of panda figurines on the day of the event in Shenzhen. A total of 1,864 panda figurines will be exhibited; this figure represents the number of endangered species in China. The WWF will also encourage people to “adopt” the 1,864 pandas through an online campaign.
Many Chinese companies also joined in the conference, and representatives from Vanke, Didi app and 58.com introduced products which reflect the idea of living a sustainable life; they also gave their own ideas regarding energy saving and environmental protection.
