Sichuan Youth Volunteers, the Sichuan Emergency Volunteer Service Association, the Meishan Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Meishan Emergency Management Bureau held a training session on flood control and relief in Meishan, Sichuan Province, from Nov 3 to 7.
The training consisted of three comprehensive parts: skills, theory, and overall assessment.
As a response to the Luding Earthquake earlier this year, the training targeted the provision of flood relief – particularly during earthquakes, and involved a full-scale rehearsal.
The five-day exercise built up volunteers’ skills and knowledge in terms of water search and rescue, mountain rope rescue, post-disaster resettlement and radio communications. It marks a step forward in enabling volunteer groups to provide comprehensive disaster relief.
