Over 30 social organizations (local term that includes NGOs) jointly launched the “Serving the Dual-Carbon Strategy, Promoting Green Development, Building an Ecological Civilization and Building a Beautiful China” initiative on Nov 2.
Initiated by 10 organizations including China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, China Environmental Culture Promotion Association, and the All-China Environment Federation, the majority of the initiative’s participating organizations are industry associations.
The industry associations, such as China Industrial Energy Conservation and Cleaner Production Association and China Iron and Steel Association, look to coordinately promote carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, in a practical and effective way.
They will also deepen the prevention and control of environmental pollution, promote “high-quality development” of their respective industry and field, establish and improve a green, low-carbon and circular economic development system, and accelerate the green transformation of industries, according to the initiative.
The initiative calls for a more thorough energy revolution, by strengthening the clean and efficient use of coal and accelerating the research and development, promotion and application of advanced technologies for energy conservation and carbon reduction.
The social organizations, through the initiative, also promote a green and low-carbon lifestyle throughout the whole country as well as more active participation in the global governance of climate change.
