On March 20, CDB hosted a workshop for social organizations participating in the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (社会组织参与京津冀协同发展研讨会). Forty-six delegates from more than forty social organizations based in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei took part in the workshop, which was held in Beijing.
Last year, CDB applied to conduct a Ministry of Civil Affairs project to improve the communication and resource integration among social organizations (as nonprofits are known in China) in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. As part of the project a survey of 55 social organizations in the region was conducted, which found some problems in terms of the communication and resource integration between the organizations. Within the region, the social organizations in Beijing are the ones that mainly produce the technology, talent, and resources, and are the ones building the cooperation platform. In contrast, the social organizations in Tianjin and Hebei are mainly the importers. During the meeting, the results of the survey were presented. The participants discussed the problems and challenges involved in strengthening interaction, communication, and cooperation between social organizations in this region, and reached a consensus on it.
One of the case studies presented during the workshop was on the “Tianjin Good-Neighbour Localization project”, an initiative that shows the significance of the communication and resource integration between the three areas. Beijing’s Xicheng District Civil Affairs Bureau, Jinnan District in Tianjin, and Baoding in Hebei Province signed a framework agreement for the cooperation and development of their respective regions. As a result, Jinnan District’s initiatives on venture philanthropy received the support and supervision of the Good-Neighbour Social Work Office of Xicheng District. Thanks to the cooperation between these two parties, new professional social workers and social organizations have sprung up.
