Formerly known as SOS China Education Foundation, the Overseas China Education Foundation (OCEF) is an American NGO founded in 1992. The mission of OCEF is to improve quality of education for rural and underprivileged children in China. Currently, OCEF works in twenty provinces in China and has the following programs:
Since 2003, Library Program: providing libraries to rural schools.
Since 2004, High School Scholarship Program
Since 2006, Teacher Aid Program: provides support for two purposes - improve living conditions and facilitate professional training.
Since 2010, Comprehensive Support Program: a strategic restructuring of funding programs to improve the quality of education in China.
Financial Aid Program: provides support for primary and middle school students to stay in school.
School Program: rebuilding dilapidated schools.
OCEF is operated mainly by unpaid volunteers, and has helped approximately 900 rural schools establish their own libraries and donated more than half a million books. OCEF has also issued more than 50,000 financial aid packages to elementary and secondary school students. Among them, at least 700 have gone on to enroll in college.
