Introduction

The Levi Strauss Foundation advances the human rights and well-being of underserved people in places where its parent company, Levi Strauss & Co., has a business presence.

For over 65 years, the Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF) has embraced the energy and events of our time to advance pioneering social change in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Worker Rights, Worker Well-being and Social Justice in the communities where we do business.

Since 1992, LSF has provided $6 million in grant support to non-profit organizations that support workers and the community in China. LSF’s grant making in China promotes sustainable ways to improve the well-being of garment factory workers and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Examples of the support the LSF has provided:

Verite China: Since 2017, LSF is partnered with Verite in China to improve and enhance the well-being of garment factory workers.

Pathfinder International and Health Research for Action, UC Berkeley: In 2012, LSF partnered with Pathfinder International and UC Berkeley to develop and disseminate a wellness guide to improve the health and wellbeing of migrant workers in China’s Changzhou Economic Development Zone.

The Asia Foundation: In 1999, Levi Strauss Foundation began investing in programs to improve worker rights and well-being in China to complement LS&Co.’s terms of engagement efforts. Since then, these in-factory programs have helped to provide support to over 910,000 migrant women workers in more than 1,000 factories in the Pearl River Delta, 50 factories in Jiangsu, Beijing, and four other municipalities and provinces.

HERproject: Levi Strauss has partnered with Business for Social Responsibility to bring the HERproject into its supply chain in China. Starting in 2012, Chinese suppliers have implemented this peer-based women’s health education program into their factories.

AIDS Care China: It is committed to establishing supportive mechanisms and a network of peers among people living with HIV/AIDS. It works to optimize access to treatment, deliver proper information, raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and reduce related stigma and discrimination.

This organization’s funding is derived from the Levi Strauss & Co.
