China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), established in 1989, is one of the largest charity organization in China in the field of poverty alleviation. CFPA’s mission is to “disseminate good and reduce poverty,” and at the same time promote reform, mobilizing social participation and building partnerships. CFPA is registered under the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs, and has projects in China and overseas. CFPA has offices in Beijing and Chengdu, and also international offices in Myanmar, Nepal and Ethiopia.
In China, CFPA alleviates poverty through a range of projects. CFPA provides healthcare and nutritious food to vulnerable populations, focusing on mothers and children. CFPA’s education program provides scholarship, infrastructure construction and delivering stationery. To support the livelihood of communities, CFPA have projects to promote economic development through tourism, commerce and microfinance. In addition, CFPA works towards disaster relief, cooperative philanthropy projects and public advocacy.
CFPA also initiated international projects in less economically developed countries, notably Ethiopia, Columbian, Myanmar, Nepal and Uganda. Until 2019, CFPA has devoted more than 200 million RMB to its international work, benefiting over 900 individuals. The projects are highly diverse, including education, refugee integration, food provision, women empowerment, and professional training. In addition, CFPA plays a part in global emergency relief and advocacy.
