The Sunrise Foundation was established in Hong Kong in 1981, was registered with the State Foreign Experts Bureau in 1989, and is currently a government-registered foreign NGO in Yunnan Province. Sunrise Foundation is a non-profit, non-government charitable organization supported entirely through private donations and grants of companies, institutions, organizations, and individuals interested in helping those in need in China.
Sunrise Foundation projects include partnerships with orphanages, special education schools, universities, rural schools, drug rehabilitation centres, and in development projects with rural villages. We strive to have projects that change lives, are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and are sensitive to the cultural, social, and economic needs of the community.

CARING: Sunrise members and contributors care about people, and we seek to help those who are most vulnerable and with the greatest needs. Caring must be done in a way that gives dignity to the individual and empowers that person to reach his or her full potential. Caring means giving people a hand up, not a hand out.
TRAINING: Teaching and training local people is an essential element in projects that are sustainable and have a long term impact on the community. Chinese culture puts great value on education, so teaching and training are always a shared value in all of our partnerships.
PARTNERING: Sunrise works with government approved entities, and our role is that of a friend and helper, not as a leader. Financial responsibilities for projects are always shared, and our finances are open to review by donors. Our goal is always to empower our partners, giving them the tools they need to succeed.
