Introduction

Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation is a registered charity in Hong Kong (number: 91/8739). It aims to encourage and finance the cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong university students. In order to improve the villagers’ living condition, volunteers of the Foundation will, in an environmental protection way, help building bridges and village facilities in remote rural and underprivileged areas of Mainland China. Participants can improve inter-personal communication skill, enhance mutual understanding, strengthen connection, and build a spiritual bridge together.

All Wu Zhi Qiao projects are project-based which can provide learning opportunities for volunteers. Hong Kong and Mainland China students can experience in remote and underprivileged areas of Mainland China, and cooperate with villagers to build temporary bridges and village facilities. With love and care, they can build a spiritual bridge together.

Over the past few years, the Foundation has successfully completed 24 bridge projects and 1 post-earthquake reconstruction demonstration. During the construction of the bridges, villagers have been encouraged to start some achievable small-scale improvement activities in the village, such as renovation of village schools, basic health and hygiene education, disaster prevention training, delivery of materials to keep warm, etc. In addition, for those places with cultural, historic or conservation value, the university team with professional background also conducted recording work including interviews and landscape sketching.
