The third “World Philanthropy Forum” came to a close in Shanghai on September 6. Hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Tsinghua University, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and co-organized by the China Welfare Institute and the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the forum was held over two days, on September 5 and 6.

On the first day the opening ceremony and a high-level dialogue on “Leading Sustainable Development through Education” were held in the morning, followed by three high-level dialogues on “Co-building of Global Health Partnerships”, “World City 2050” and “Vocational Education and Youth Development”; in the afternoon the keynote speeches of “Successful Vocational Education and Training” and “Opening the World through Education: Hult Prize – From Student to Social Entrepreneur” were separately presented by Anthony Mann, Head of the OECD’s Vocational Education and Training and Adult Learning Team and Davina Hult, President of the EF Global Classroom Foundation, and Family Member of EF Education First.

In the morning of the forum’s second day distinguished Chinese Writer Leung Fung-yee Anita was invited to give the keynote speech on “Promoting Outstanding Chinese Culture, Cultivating Future Leaders” in a session on “Arts & Humanities and Philanthropy”, and a dialogue was held with the theme of “Intelligent Humanities, Philanthropy Inheritance and International Cooperation”; Focusing on the “Global and Regional Poverty Eradication and Governance under the New Era”, Liang Xingxin, Vice President of the China Association for Non-Profit Organizations and President of the Zhejiang Federation of Social Organizations and Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme in the People’s Republic of China, gave speeches on “the Responsibility of Social Organizations in Public Assistance and Charity” and “Poverty Eradication and Development in the Era of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Role of Global Governance”, followed by a Dialogue on “New Era and New Patterns——The Latest Phenomena about Poverty in the Globe and the Region, and the Best Ways to Respond to the New Challenges and Opportunities of Poverty Eradication”.

In the afternoon session on ”‘The Belt and Road’ Women’s Forum – Women’s Growth and Leadership”, Wang Pei’an, Deputy Director of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment, CPPCC and Former Deputy Director of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Qiujian, Deputy Secretary General of the twelfth CPPCC Nation, Lv Hailin, Former President of the United Nations Women’s International Forum, and Pansy Ho Chiu-king, Executive Chairperson & Managing Director of Shun Tak successively presented their speeches and engaged in dialogue.

In the session on “Resource shared for Sustainable Development”, a keynote speech of “Poverty Alleviation Practices and Experiences of Chinese Private Enterprises“ was presented by Li Zhaoqian, Vice-Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, who indicated that private enterprises have been positively engaged in Poverty Alleviation Practices, thus building up a sustainable pattern of Poverty Alleviation and Development, followed by a dialogue on “the Innovative Sharing Mode of Global Philanthropic Resources”. Afterwards Bruce Knotts, Chair of the NGO/DPI Executive Committee of the UN, delivered a speech on “Thoughts on Global Leadership”, in which he pointed out that cooperation is the only solution to the issue of global sustainable development, and China plays a leading role in the field of world sustainable development.

During the closing ceremony, a series of achievements related to the forum were presented, including the introduction of the International Personnel Training Plan, the establishment of the Academic Committee of WPF, the launching of the WPF Index Research, the introduction of the Committee of Resource Partners of WPF and the plan for the Annual Meeting of Cooperation Mechanisms of Chinese Social Work. Finally Deng Lan, Deputy Secretary General of the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development, announced the theme of the “World Philanthropy Forum 2019”, and a handover ceremony was held. It was announced that next year’s Forum will be held in Hong Kong, with the theme of a “a Charitable Bay Area, a Better Life”.
