Management of a Dalian shopping centre has been accused of gender discrimination after it designated some parking spaces as women-only.
The management started the practice in June this year to mixed reviews. While management claims that the allocation of parking spaces is meant to offer women ‘special treatment’, opinions exist that the move was a desultory nod to the stereotype that women are less capable drivers than men.
The designation of women-only parking spaces is not a unique practice; this also exists in Changsha and Shijiazhuang in China, and also in other countries such as Germany and Korea.
