Job Summary

The Program Manager with ClimateWorks Foundation China Office works as a core member of the Beijing-based team, advancing emerging strategies at the intersection of power and other sectors to hasten China’s transition to a carbon-neutral energy system.

This position supports program development and implementation; grantmaking and project management; research and analysis; relationship management; and stakeholder engagement, with a primary focus on advancing decarbonization strategies that span the power sector and its connections with other major sectors.

 

Essential Tasks

The Program Manager will be responsible for:

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on emerging trends, policies, and opportunities at the intersection of the power sector and other key electricity consumption sectors.
  • Support the Chief Representative of China Office in strategy development grounded in evidence and informed by stakeholder input.
  • Provide substantial support for the implementation of grantmaking strategies by identifying potential grantees, cultivating relationships, scoping fundable projects, and developing a robust pipeline of grants.
  • Manage relationships and facilitate effective communication with grantees and partners, closely monitor project progress, and support effective reporting and evaluation processes.
  • Assist the Chief Representative of China Office with funder engagement by preparing concise and informative reports, coordinating funder communications, organizing and preparing for funder meetings, and developing tailored materials to keep funders informed and engaged with program activities and outcomes.
  • Support proposal and grant report preparation, due diligence, and compliance in coordination with internal teams, ensuring high standards and timely delivery.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the overall strategy for ClimateWorks China Office by identifying key partners, organizing events, and building strategic partnerships to amplify program impact.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Representative of China Office to support the effective functioning of the team and advancement of organizational objectives.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above, in energy, electricity, industry, clean technology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant work experiences in program coordination/management, clean energy transition, industrial decarbonization, clean technology or related fields—experiences with NGOs or international organizations preferred.
  • Knowledge of China’s power sector and key electricity consumption sectors, energy and industry policy landscape, and climate/energy/industry transition strategies.
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Experience working in service to a broad range of partners and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a cross-cultural, cross-functional environment.
  • Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a dynamic work environment
  • Commitment to the mission and values of ClimateWorks Foundation—including equity, transparency, and environmental integrity.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally within China and internationally.

Location

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This position is based in Beijing, China.
