On March 26, the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) held its annual convention of donors in Beijing. During the convention, the foundation’s work report was delivered to the donors. The reports claimed that in 2017, as always, the CFPA was devoted to poverty alleviation work in the fields of health, education, work, disaster relief, social partner cooperation and advocacy, receiving donations of 580 million yuan in total, spending 470 million yuan, and giving out small loans for 8.6 billion yuan.
A total of more than 4.19 million impoverished people and victims of disasters have benefited from these programs in China and in other countries including Sudan, Ethiopia, Haiti, Nepal, Myanmar, Cambodia, and North Korea.
The CFPA’s three-year work plan for 2018-2020 was also released by vice president Liu Wenkui. According to the plan, the focus of the CFPA in the next three years will be on reducing poverty through industrial development, and on building a platform to allow social forces to take part in poverty alleviation. At the same time, the foundation also plans to actively respond to the ‘One Belt, One Road’ project and the appeal to cultivate “a community of shared future for mankind” by sharing China’s experience of poverty alleviation with the rest of the world.
