A report was recently published by the Xinhua News Agency, stating that until February 9 the number of registered social organizations had exceeded 816,000, and there were 2300 social organizations registered under the Ministry of Civil Affairs according to the National Social Organization Data System.
With the rapid development of social organizations in China and the active promotion carried out by various departments at all government levels, a large number of social organizations have proactively engaged in poverty alleviation and become an important force.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs has established a leading group to guide social organizations to support poverty alleviation in deeply impoverished areas. It has organized 180 national social organizations, such as the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and the China Charity Federation, and connected them to these areas. The Ministry of Civil Affairs is also providing support to social organizations that carry out poverty alleviation initiatives in deeply impoverished areas. More than 290 projects were established in 2017 and 2018, with a total fund supported by the central finances exceeding 100 million yuan.
Provincial civil affairs departments in Jiangsu and Shaanxi have cooperated to select 47 social organizations and their poverty alleviation projects, providing more than the 20-million-yuan worth of technology, services, and material goods. Civil affairs departments in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei Province have played a synergistic role in carrying out a series of poverty alleviation activities involving the participation of social organizations. More than 400 million yuan has been invested in these activities.
