On the afternoon of May 2, over eighty volunteers gathered on the shores of Rongshanliao in Haikou for the launch of the “Purify the Sea, Pursue the Light” public welfare campaign. The event was held under the guidance of Hainan Province’s Ecology and Agriculture departments, organized by the Blue Ribbon Ocean Conservation Association, and co-hosted by the Hainan Yachting Association. The day’s activities blended shoreline restoration with a beach cleanup, cetacean rescue drills, and engaging environmental education sessions.
The event opened with an inspiring pledge to protect marine ecosystems, delivered by Jinhao Lu, a volunteer from the Blue Ribbon Society. After a safety briefing and tool demonstrations, five team‑leaders led volunteers in a one‑hour beach‑cleanup, removing plastic and other debris harmful to marine life.
Following the cleanup, Mr. Li Haiqin of the Sanya Rescue Team conducted a simulated whale‑and‑dolphin‑rescue drill, demonstrating how to properly respond to cetacean strandings and raising awareness about the importance of marine animal rescue.
To wrap up the day, each participant received a certificate in recognition of their contributions to marine conservation. A group photo marked the successful completion of the Haikou event–the first of ten stops planned across China in 2025.
As part of Hainan’s “6 + N” initiative, the campaign is part of a broader partnership between Sky: Children of the Light and the Blue Ribbon Society. In 2025, the collaboration will continue to focus on marine litter reduction, coral‑reef protection, science education, and emergency response training–promoting environmental awareness and encouraging stewardship of the seas.
