First Academic Exchange Conference on Humanitarianism and Traditional Chinese Culture Held in Wudi, Shandong
On October 24, the first Academic Exchange Conference on Humanitarianism and Traditional Chinese Culture was held in Wudi, Shandong—hometown of Wu Chongxi, a pioneer of the Red Cross Movement in China. The event was hosted by the International College of the Red Cross, with academic support from the Institute for Humanitarian Governance at Soochow University.
More than 200 participants attended, including Bian Xiao, Vice President of the Red Cross Society of China, Wang Rupeng, President of the International College of the Red Cross; experts and scholars from universities and research institutes such as Soochow University and Tsinghua University; and leaders from Red Cross Societies at over 200 teaching and research bases of the International College. Pan Feng, Vice Mayor of Binzhou and President of the Binzhou Red Cross Society, presided over the opening ceremony.
During the event, guest representatives delivered opening remarks. The winners of the inaugural “Essay Collection on Humanitarianism and Traditional Chinese Culture” were announced and awarded. The unveiling ceremony for the “Wu Chongxi Red Cross Movement Memorial Hall” as a teaching and research base also took place, followed by the formal appointment of research consultants as directors of the Red Cross Movement Teaching and Research Center.
In the afternoon, scholars and experts exchanged insights on the relationship between humanitarianism and traditional Chinese culture. Representatives from the on-site teaching bases of the International College shared their experience in campus development, and participants visited the memorial halls and related exhibition spaces.
