  • China-LAC Climate Webinar Forges Partnerships among Nonprofits

On May 23, 2025, China Development Brief (CDB) and GlobalGiving Shanghai Rep Office co-hosted the “China-LAC Climate Change Webinar,” bringing together over 30 nonprofit organizations from China and Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC). The virtual event, held at 8 AM Beijing Time (7 PM on May 22 in Brazil), aimed to enhance cross-regional collaboration on climate issues.

Prior to the webinar, a Canva platform facilitated pre-event networking, allowing organizations to share profiles and identify common goals. During the 60-minute session, participants engaged in structured discussions focused on mapping collaboration opportunities. Opening remarks highlighted shared climate vulnerabilities, including rising temperatures and extreme weather in both regions, emphasizing the importance of community-led solutions.

Plans for follow-up webinars in July and September were announced to deepen engagement with the private sector and prepare for a joint presence at COP30 in Brazil this November. The initiative, outlined in a project concept note, aims to promote knowledge exchange, secure funding for cross-regional projects, and establish a permanent mechanism for China-LAC climate cooperation.

This landmark event marks a significant step towards South-South collaboration, leveraging local expertise to address global climate challenges.
