Women’s federation calls for law against child abuse

The Shanghai Women’s Federation recently proposed that child abuse be included in the criminal law. Representatives explained that the criminal law currently includes only restrictions against abuse of a family member, with a maximum sentence of two years. Due to the lack of a specific law against child abuse, conviction and sentencing in child abuse cases can be very difficult.
