The China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) has officially registered as an international non-government organization in Nepal. At 13:30 on August 13th 2015, the agreement-signing ceremony was held at the office of the Social Welfare Council of Nepal. On the occasion of the 60 anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal, CFPA became the first Chinese NGO registered in Nepal.

According to their own press relsease, the registration of the CFPA office is not only a significant step forward for the internationalization of the organization but also a “meaningful exploration” for Chinese NGOs’ overseas aid. It also means that CFPA will be involved in the reconstruction efforts in Nepal for the near future. Over the following five years, the CFPA say they will give at least 100,000 US dollars per year to reconstruction efforts in Nepal. The foundation promises that they will abide by four principles when operating in Nepal: demand-driven, cooperation, sustainability, and sharing.
