Introduction

To move human society to live in ways that protect the Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.

The World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent, non-profit environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people’s lives. Headquartered in Washington D.C., WRI has a global reach, working with more than 400 partners in 50 countries. WRI’s China Office opened in 2008, and is its first permanent overseas office.

Our Team in China

WRI-China team was built up under the first leadership of Prof. Zou Ji, who is now a Deputy Director General at the National Centre for Climate Strategy and International Cooperation of China, NDRC. The China office team members have a wealth of experience in climate and energy, water resources, communications, and administration. The team is now lead by Dr. Tan Xiaomei, our Acting China Country Director, to continuously seek practical solutions to environmental problems using tools and analysis. The office welcomes committed partnerships.

Priorities in China

WRI-China will focus on three priorities:

  • Sustainable cities strategy and planning
  • Climate and energy
  • Water

WRI’s work in these areas includes: greenhouse gas tools and standards, low-carbon technologies, sustainable cities strategy and planning, sustainable transportation, eutrophication, water scarcity, and water risk. WRI also works on China low carbon outward and foreign direct investment research and forest project in China.
