The David and Lucile Packard Foundation works on the issues our founders cared about most: improving the lives of children, enabling the creative pursuit of science, advancing reproductive health, and conserving and restoring the earth’s natural systems.
For over 50 years, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation has supported organizations and leaders working to protect and restore ecosystems for a world where families can plan for their children, and all children can reach their potential. We are a family foundation guided by the enduring business philosophy and personal values of David and Lucile, whose innovative approach to management helped transform a small electronics shop into one of the world’s leading technology companies. Today, their children and grandchildren take an active role in the work of the Foundation and continue the important work that David and Lucile started.
In China, the Packard Foundation supports clean power and transportation options, energy efficiency, and the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gasses. The Foundation also supports ocean conservation through China’s creation of a marine eco-civilization, where ocean and coastal regions would work together to protect and restore wetlands, improve management of fishing practices, limit distant water fishing, and control the scale of aquaculture.
As of December 2016, the Packard Foundation’s investment portfolio totaled $7.1 billion. General program grant awards for 2017 totaled $314 million.
