Introduction

To provide children in poverty with good education conditions and healthy environment to grow up by pooling social resources and mobilizing volunteers’ efforts on school and children’s home projects

Sowers Action is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious charitable organization registered in Hong Kong (HKSAR IRD Ref: 91/3859). Established in 1992, Sowers Action is dedicated to the cause of helping needy children in China to attain an education. The organization promotes education development in China with a belief that “Education is the key to eradicating poverty” and sustainable development of the country resides in turning its huge population into intellectual resources.

The name “Sowers Action” refers to seedlings (students) which are nurtured in gardens (schools) with the efforts of Sowers’ participants. Our efforts include providing student subsidies, rebuilding dilapidated school buildings and subsidizing teachers’ training programs. As a result, deprived children, including some disabled, have the opportunity to study in a decent, and above all, a safe environment.

In order to ensure funds are properly and effectively used for worthwhile projects, we assess and monitor projects according to a guiding principle composed of 3 key elements: on-site assessment, direct subsidy, and long-term follow-up.

All our school projects are based on local needs. Sowers Action sends over 60 workgroups each year to carry out on-site assessment and to follow up existing projects. Our workgroups are made of self-financing volunteers from all walks of life.

The contribution of volunteers is fundamental to the establishment and daily running of the organization. The community at-large could participate in school projects assessment and monitor project progress at all stages. And we are thankful to the public for their contribution and participation which are vital to the success of our fundraising activities.

Transparency and accountability are central to the use of our donation. Apart from having an independent auditor to review our accounts annually, Sowers Action opens to public our key financial information and annual reports which could be easily accessed from our website.

Unless otherwise specified, all donations to Sowers Action are allocated to beneficiaries without any deduction for operating expenses. Its operating expenditure is subsidized independently by membership fees, personal donations and corporate sponsorships.
