Introduction

To provide decision makers at all levels with urgently needed innovative solutions to solve the energy and climate crises and create green energy ecosystems.

The Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation iCET is one of the first China-based NGOs to bring climate and low-carbon discussions to china. Over the years, iCET has carved out a unique reputation as a leader in China’s climate policies. We recognize the urgency of the climate problem, focusing on solutions for China. We are committed to the values and principles of innovation, sound scientific research, independence and practicality. iCET’s work primarily focuses on the following four categories:

Identifying and Introducing International Best Practices
iCET identifies international best practices on low-carbon development and climate change policies, assesses their suitability for use in China, and transfers innovative best practices to China. In September 2012, iCET received support from the US Department of Commerce to establish the US China Clean Tech Center. Through offering valuable information and building networks in clean-tech sectors, iCET assists policy makers, clean tech providers and other key stakeholders to improve their knowledge on clean technologies.

Providing Expert Advice and Capacity Building
iCET provides expert advice on carbon management and low-carbon development to governments and business, conducts in-depth analysis and policy studies on improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, and delivers capacity building programs on GHG and sustainability management. Our Low Carbon Transportation Program has seen important advances and growth in its influence. We have released recommendations on promoting sustainable low-carbon fuels for China, and the government has begun implementing many of the recommendations. In 2011, we released China’s first corporate Average Fuels Consumption report and China Green Car Guide, and completed three major reports on fuel economy, electrification of transportation and fiscal measures for cleaner vehicles for the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.

Planning and Coordination
iCET organizes international conferences and workshops, and facilitates the exchange of ideas, cooperation, and coordination among various stakeholders, including central and local government bodies, the private sector, NGOs, academics and consumers.

Media Outreach
iCET uses public media to educate the public (e.g., our Green Car Rating program), to promote environmental consciousness and to create demand for green consumer products in China.
