Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration, CI empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature, our global biodiversity, for the well-being of humanity.
Conservation International (CI), founded in 1987, is an international non-profit orgainsation, with headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, U.S.A. CI has more than 1,000 staff, working in more than 40 countries and areas in the world. CI aims to integrate the strategic management and conservation of natural resources into development practices, which will result in a more sustainable approach that allows all of humanity and nature to thrive. CI is committed to guiding societies toward a more sustainable development path. Through science, field work and partners at every level, we are demonstrating to decision-makers and the broader public how a new economic development approach—one that considers and values nature at every turn—can be applied to assure a healthy future for all.
Our Vision
We imagine a healthy, prosperous world in which societies are forever committed to caring for and valuing nature, our global biodiversity, for the long-term benefit of people and all life on Earth.
People need nature to thrive and depend on nature for many things. To have the greatest impact, CI focuses on the following:
Working to secure a stable global climate,
Protecting the sources and flows of fresh water,
Ensuring nature’s ability to provide food for human needs,
Minimizing environmental pressures on human health,
Valuing the relationship between nature and human cultures,
Safeguarding the ability of species and biodiversity to sustain healthy ecosystems.
Conservation International in China
Conservation International (CI) started its China program in 2002. The main working area between 2002 and 2009 was focused on developing nature conservation projects surrounding flag species such as Giant Panda and Golden Snob Monkey, in South-West Mountainous biodiversity hotspot in China.
Since 2009, CI China (CIC) has adopted new strategy for conservation, and expanded to new areas such as freshwater conservation, climate change adaptation, community sustainable development, and marine ecosystem conservation. CI emphasizes on taking scientific approach to develop systematic conservation programs. We want to establish long-term ecosystem health evaluation mechanism on forest, wetland, freshwater, and ocean etc, to monitor and evaluate conservation results.
From Land to Ocean, CI will work together with government agencies, enterprises, scientific research institutes and communities to create a sustainable development path that protects our environment and benefits people for generations to come.
