Introduction

Established in spring 2003, Facilitators was one of the first non-governmental social work organizations in China. We strive to improve the quality of life of China’s 290 million migrant workers and their children. We cooperate extensively with governments, businesses, NGOs and volunteers for integration of migrants, with the service strategy combining service innovation, research and advocacy, as well as professional support to grassroots NGOs. We empower migrants to help others, conduct policy advocacy and public education, and promote development of grassroots NGOs, leading development in social work in China while building local experiences for development of the society.

The Facilitators has established sister organizations in the five regions of China with the highest concentration of migrant workers or as source provinces, i.e. Beijing, Qingdao, Nanjing, Zhuhai and Jiangxi. The five organizations together form a strategic cooperative network and support one another’s work. On average, more than 1,000 service activities are carried out each year, delivering professional services to 26,000 people and more than 3,000 social organizations.

Our Vision, Guiding Philosophy and Mission

Vision

No one has to suffer discrimination based on gender, profession or where she or he comes from. Each and every one can embrace the dignity that is rightfully hers or his, and to live her or his life with a sense of freedom.

Guiding Philosophy

We believe that every vulnerable person has her or his own strengths, and each and every one should enjoy dignity. This is why our guiding philosophy is to “create strength through cooperation” and to “help people help themselves”. We work with various partners to become facilitators that empower the vulnerable persons and grassroots NGOs to promote social integration.

Mission

We have combined service innovation, research and advocacy, as well as professional support to grassroots NGOs in our service strategy to draw on local experiences to build a civil society, empowering migrants and grassroots NGOs, promoting self-improvement as well as the progress of the society.
