Job Description

CONSULTANCY TITLE: New Business Development Advisor, Save the Children China CO
LOCATION: Home Based Position (might require travelling depending on the Covid situation)
CONTRACT LENGTH: 2-3 months

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

The New Business Development Advisor designs, establishes the SC China CO funding strategy to achieve greater program results at scale, through developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key donors.

The post holder provides guidance and capacity development to the relevant team in term of bidding of winning proposals.

This post helps to build an effective Business Development system of tools, processes, and capacities to support SC China CO in order to successfully compete for specific opportunities.

 

BACKGOUND

Save the Children has been operating in China since 1980s, and transitioned to a SCI CO in 2012. This long history has allowed SC to build a strong reputation for quality programmes and impact, develop strong partnerships, and successfully influence legislation, policy and practice at all levels of government and civil society to deliver impact for all children.

However, despite continued support from Hong Kong member organization and a few other corporate members, international funding has been continuously declining over the last three years. China CO programme portfolio is now mostly supported by unrestricted (58%; Corporate: 38%, institutional: 5%). There is need to develop Save the Children China CO’s funding strategy fitting for Country’s context in order to achieve the strategic ambitions by the end of current strategic period.

Level 1:  A basic criminal record background (DBS) check is required/equivalent police record check.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Portfolio and Pipeline development
·   In close cooperation with the Country Director, analyse how Save the Children China CO could attract more opportunities especially in expanding the corporate fundraising strategy.
·   Identification of prospect corporate donors in line with funding priorities and support the development of high added-value institutional/corporate engagement schemes
·   Liaise with key stakeholder e.g. members/donor on donor engagement and positioning and specific funding opportunities

Donor Mapping
·   Conduct donor landscape mapping and identify and research suitable donors for the CO
·   Lead the development of a comprehensive Funding Strategy, in line with the Country Strategic Plan
·   Develop donor engagement plans

Funding Opportunities & Proposal Development
·   Review and provide the advice to relevant process e.g. Go No Go decision process , proposal development process for the large bid ensuring the highest quality products are submitted to donor
·   Develop a business development tool to enhance the capacities in business development and roll out of NBD operating procedures

HR Management
·   Review the current work scope for NBD function in CO and provide the guidance to CD on the NBD function development

 

EXPECTED OUTCOME

·   Completion of New Business Development strategy including
- China market analysis and SC China CO position,
- Pros & Con,
- Risk & Opportunities
- List of potential donors/Member
·   Donor engagement scheme/plan
·   Strong pipeline build up
·   Updated relevant development process e.g. Business development tool
·   Guidance on NBD procedure and NBD function

 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

·   Development professional with a relevant Masters’ Degree or equivalent professional experience.
·  10 years’ relevant experience, ideally with experience in working in China/Asian Context or Save the Children priority sectors
·   Excellent writing/ editing, budget development and presentation/ communication skills
·   Excellent coordination, organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, and pull together input from a diverse team across multiple locations
·   Proven record of accomplishment in institutional/cooperate partnership building
·   Fluency in English, both verbal and written
·   Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
